Walk Works

Silhouettes of Society

This new exhibition celebrates the life of socialite Lady Iliffe through fashion and design. From hosting glamorous events and parties at Basildon Park, located near Reading, to her work with the Red Cross throughout her life. Taking inspiration from photographs, the colours and shapes of her clothing choices and the interiors of Basildon Park, the exhibition highlights Lady Iliffe's life and style within the backdrop of the house she created. Admission charges apply.

Bastille Day Fest - 11th & 12th July

If you need a reason to don red, white and blue, then the Bastille Day Fest in Forbury Gardens Reading town centre is for you and your family. Enjoy authentic French food and drink, live entertainment, traditional crafts, historical displays and even a guillotine, as French culture and heritage take centre stage in the heart of Reading. This event is free.

Book Launch on Saturday 11th July from 2 - 3.30pm

Two Rivers Press will launch Mary Chambers’ new book “The Kind Hosts of Willie Wimmera” at Watlington House. Willie Wimmera, an Aboriginal boy, was ten years old when clergyman Lloyd Chase brought him from Melbourne to Reading in 1851. Tragically, he became ill and died only a few months after his arrival. He is buried in Reading Old Cemetery, his grave marked ‘An Australian boy’.
Taking place in the Garden Hall of Watlington House, access via the double garden gates on South Street. This event is free, no need to book. Please arrive at 1.40 for a prompt 2pm start.

Walk Works connect people to nature and to each other on their fabulous walks of discovery through the Chiltern Hills, along the Ridgeway and beside the peaceful river trails of the Thames Path.

We are not hosting any walks during the Chilterns Discovery Day but can recommend events in our favourite town, Reading.
