Hello, my name is Mary

Chilterns Treasures is the logical next step to bring together the many strands of my work and family life in the naturally outstanding Chiltern Hills.

Despite being located in the green lung between Oxford and London, it feels as though I have the place to myself.

We have so many wonderful businesses and locals who have inspired me to share useful seasonal hints and friendly countryside tips, the occasional recipe, how to access and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family, or if you prefer on your own.

Starting from our market towns that are linked by bus and train from the urban centres that surround and press in on the green open spaces, is a good place to find your way.  But these market towns are worth spending time in as they are where the high street merges with countryside, from train to countryside trail. Some of them have really good places to eat and feast too, quickly local museums and independent, friendly shops. Let’s explore them and the naturally outstanding Chiltern Hills together!

    My Story

You may know me through my professional work as a tourism marketing consultant and co-founder of the Chilterns Tourism business network founded in 2012. I advise businesses and destinations on how to communicate what is local and special about their place of business and where it is located. I relish the search and discovery of the detail that sets a thing and place apart. Apart from all the ‘pick me pick me” noise.

Chilterns Treasures is the result of the years of writing about, exploring, getting lost and taking photographs of the places I have been to and the people I have met. These are shared in my substack and Instagram, see the links below. It’s difficult finding the time to pursue both, but Chilterns Treasures allows me to do that.

The Chilterns needs time and energy to discover and enjoy what is here and the content will be expanded as the site grows with many of the wonderful businesses we have here. Many are Chilterns Treasures.  Follow us and we’ll be your guide.
